If you haven’t seen Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger respond to recent rape charges, you need to. I’ve always been a Big Ben backer, and personally I find it very hard to believe a guy like him would need to force himself on a woman. I remember when Kobe Bryant was similarly accused several years ago, and I said the same thing then. I’ll be shocked if these allegations aren’t found to be completely and utterly false.
Of interest here though is Roethlisberger’s facial expression and tone. You can just feel the guy’s pain. He’s also very clear in pointing out this matter is only a “civil case,” as law enforcement officers haven’t seen enough evidence to actually press criminal charges. Remember, in prison the guilty sleep soundly. It’s the innocent that stay awake at night.
I know Ben has overcome odds before. That terrible motorcycle accident after his first Super Bowl victory could have killed him. However, I do fear that the emotional faceplant these charges represent may be harder to conquer than any physical trauma Roethlisberger has ever dealt with. Watch the video, and you’ll see. This guy is in the belly of the beast.
